Jobs Geolocation Setup
Requirements
Jobs geolocation is included with WP Job Manager Geolocation Starter and Pro. Before configuring it, confirm that the site has:
- WP Job Manager 2.0 or newer.
- An active WP Job Manager Geolocation Starter or Pro package.
- A Google Cloud project with billing enabled.
- A Browser API Key and Server API Key configured with the required Google services.
If this is an upgrade from version 2.3.3, complete the 2.3.3 to 3.0 upgrade procedure and confirm that the location migration finishes before judging search completeness.
Configure Google API keys
Enable Maps JavaScript API, Places API (New), and Geocoding API in the Google Cloud project.
- Add the website/referrer-restricted Browser API Key under Job Listings → Settings → Geolocation → General.
- Add the IP-restricted Server API Key under Job Listings → Settings → General.
- Return to the Geolocation General tab and use Test API Key to test server-side Geocoding API access.
- Test the Browser API Key on an actual job form and map; the server-key test does not test browser autocomplete or map rendering.
See Generating Google Maps API Keys for the required restrictions and troubleshooting steps.
Configure the Job location field
Open Job Listings → Settings → Geolocation → General and review:
- Google Maps Country Code and Google Maps Language.
- Address Autocomplete (admin) for the WordPress Job editor.
- Address Autocomplete (front-end) for the front-end Job submission form.
- Autocomplete Countries when suggestions should be restricted to selected countries.
Autocomplete improves address selection, but the saved Job location remains the standard WP Job Manager location field. WP Job Manager geocodes that value, and WP Job Manager Geolocation indexes the resulting coordinates for proximity searches and maps.
Create and verify a geocoded Job
- Create or edit a Job from the WordPress administrator or front-end submission form.
- Enter the location and select a complete autocomplete suggestion when autocomplete is enabled.
- Save or publish the Job.
- On the administrator edit screen, confirm that the location is reported as geocoded.
- Open the Job on the front end and confirm that its saved location is available to the configured map.
If the address exists but no indexed location is available, open Job Listings → Settings → Geolocation → Tools and run Scan for Missing Job Locations. Enable optional geocoding only when the existing Job does not already contain coordinates; geocoding can consume Google quota and incur charges.
Configure proximity search and the Results Map
Open Job Listings → Settings → Geolocation → Search & Map. Configure autocomplete, the current-location controls, radius choices, units, ordering, distance display, and the optional Results Map.
Use the saved settings with:
[jobs wpjmgeo_mode="settings"]Use shortcode mode when one page needs its own configuration:
[jobs wpjmgeo_mode="shortcode" wpjmgeo_radius="10,25,50" wpjmgeo_units="imperial" wpjmgeo_map="1"]Geolocation can also be enabled on a page selected under Preset Pages. This is useful when a theme or template produces the Jobs listing without exposing the shortcode for editing.
Proximity search works with or without a visible map. Setting wpjmgeo_map="0" disables the map without disabling the location query.
To place the Results Map separately from the listings, follow the Results Map Shortcode guide.
Configure the single Job map
Open Job Listings → Settings → Geolocation → Single Job Page to choose the automatic map placement, dimensions, map type, marker, zoom, and gesture handling.
For manual placement, use:
[wpjmgeo_jobs_single_job_map]On a different page, specify the Job:
[wpjmgeo_jobs_single_job_map post_id="123"]See Single Job and Resume Map Shortcodes for all supported map options.
Verify the complete workflow
- Create a Job using an address that produces valid coordinates.
- Search near that location with a radius large enough to include it.
- Confirm the result, distance, ordering, and marker.
- Repeat the search with the Results Map disabled.
- Open the single Job and verify its map.
- Clear every page, object, host, and CDN cache, then repeat the public test while logged out.
If a step fails, use Maps, Autocomplete, and Search Troubleshooting.
