Search & Map Settings

Last modified: January 27, 2026

Introduction

The Search & Map settings control how geolocation behaves on job and resume search pages. These options affect proximity searches, radius filtering, map display, markers, and how results are ordered.

All settings on this page apply to both job listings and resumes, unless noted otherwise.

WP Job Manager Geolocation – Search & Map settings tab.

Accessing This Settings Page

The Search & Map settings are located inside the WP Job Manager settings panel. To access this page, go to:

Dashboard → Job Listings (or Resumes) → Settings → Geolocation → Search & Map

The same settings structure and options apply to both job and resume search pages.

Search & Map Settings Options

1. Usage

These settings apply globally when using the [jobs] or [resumes] shortcode with geolocation enabled via wpjmgeo_use="2".

If you instead use wpjmgeo_use="1", all settings on this page are ignored and geolocation behavior must be defined directly via shortcode attributes.

Example:

[jobs wpjmgeo_use="2"]

2. Preset Pages

Select the pages where geolocation search features should be active automatically.

This is useful for themes or templates that do not expose shortcode editing, such as built-in job listing pages or homepage templates.

3. Location Input

Address Autocomplete

Enable Google Places autocomplete suggestions while typing in the location field.

Autocomplete Countries

Optionally limit autocomplete suggestions to specific countries. You may select up to 15 countries. Leave empty to allow suggestions from all countries.

Locator Button

Display a locator button inside the location field that retrieves the visitor’s current position when clicked.

Page Load Locator

When enabled, the browser will attempt to detect the visitor’s location on page load and automatically submit the search form using that location.

4. Radius & Units

Radius

Define one or more radius values (comma-separated). Multiple values appear as a dropdown in the search form.

Units

Choose whether distances are measured in miles, kilometers, or allow users to select their preferred unit.

5. Ordering Results

Control how search results can be ordered using the Order By dropdown.

Available options include distance, title, featured, date, modified, ID, parent, random, and name.

6. Map Display Settings

Google Map

Display a Google Map above the list of search results.

Map Size

Control the map width and height using pixels or percentages.

Map Type

Choose between Roadmap, Satellite, Hybrid, or Terrain views.

Zoom & Gesture Handling

Define default and maximum zoom levels and how users interact with the map using touch or scroll gestures.

7. Markers & Distance

Marker Clustering

Group nearby markers together to improve map readability on dense result sets.

User & Location Icons

Customize the icons used to represent the visitor’s location and listing locations on the map.

Show Distance

Display the calculated distance to each listing directly in the search results.

How to Use These Options

  1. Decide whether geolocation is controlled globally or via shortcode attributes.
  2. Enable autocomplete and locator features to improve user experience.
  3. Define radius values and units that match your audience.
  4. Adjust map display and marker behavior for clarity and performance.
